The attempt to save the northern bottle-nosed whale was worldwide news, overshadowing things like Iraqi car-bombings, American mine deaths, and a politician's rent-boy confession (although to be fair, that's almost a daily occurence these days).

Politicians' trouserial activities don't need to be all over the news either.
