I can't believe I didn't bloody notice this until now

Donna had that heartbeat thing going on. Just like the Master.

There was all that guff in Turn Left about how she was special, and had been since she was born.

She keeps going on about how she's just a 'temp'. That word, TEMP. She KEEPS saying it.

Temp Noble = Time Lord.

She's one of them, all hidden in human form like 'John Smith' and 'Professor Yana'. RTD does love his plays on words.

It's GOT to be. Damn him. Damn him to HELL.

but her parents?

question is is who?

they said there was something on her back again

SOMEONE picked up that ring at the end of series three.

ok option time.

The Master - transregeneration...would also require the master to have a tardis...or at least a chameleon arch/cerebro....that would be bad

The Rani - not out of the realms of possibility.

Susan - now this would just be rusty being a stupid fanboy

Jenny - don't think she would have done this....Jenny is spin off fodder

ok heres a wacky suggestion

THE DOCTOR - again with the transregenration but if she chameloeoned herself into a human but combined it with the masters screwdriver and its aging wotsits and then got dumbledore'sdoctors army to take her back in time to be adopted by the nobles.

yeah yeah its probably all bollocks, but at the end of this I would not be in the slightest bit surprised if wilf tells donna she adopted and the only thing she was given by her 'parents' was a fob watch

Romana.

In a background piece by RTD himself in the DW Annual 2005, he used the idea from the Virgin New Adventures that Romana was the President of Gallifrey during the Time War.

The episode had a cameo from Richard Dawkins, who's married to Lalla Ward.

Just a thought.

The Virgin DW novels had her coming back from E-Space, returning to Gallifrey and later becoming President.

The Big Finish audio stories use the same idea and have done a series of President Romana stories with Lalla Ward.

None of that is strictly canon, but in the 2005 DW Annual, RTD himself wrote a piece called "Meet the Doctor" that includes the most detailed description of the Time War we've yet had. Early on, it says, "Some tried to find peaceful solutions ... under the Act of Master Restitution, President Romana opened a peace treaty with the Daleks." So that's pretty nearly official continuity.

If Romana was President when the War started, then she would have been the direct opponent of Davros. I'm getting to really like this idea.

Mrs The Master, wasn't it? IIRC, she had the same nail varnish or something like that.

Nicely spotted. And I'd love her to turn out to be Romana.

The bit that caught my ear was Harriet Jones making such a point of saying the underwave tech was built by a company called "Mister Copper". Remembering the anagram of Mister Saxon, could that mean something? (A cursory glance at online anagram sites had nothing obvious, though "Comets Ripper" was quite evocative...)

Anyway... bloody good ep and all to play for!

(Pointed here by [info]reddragdiva)

I can't remember where from, but I got the impression that there was going to be a fucking dreadful pun/plot thing involving Noble Sacrifice.

The setup for Part 2 of the finale, with mad dalek oracle and all, and its thuddingly subtle "...AND ONE MUST DIE!!!11!" fate dangling over the heads of the companions past and present, suggests that someone's gonna be scrubbed out, and all signs point to it being either Donna or Rose.

Is Martha's deus-ex-machina key thing going to be the digital equivalent of the personality-storing fob watches from last season?

Nobody has mention what the leader of the shadow proclamation said 'this is galactic war', any chance of them being the cavalry come to save the day.

To many shots of the Doctor's hand in a jar this season - it's got to be important. Regeneration into two new Doctors perhaps for the happy Ending - one for Rose in the alternative Universe?

I noticed all the hand-in-jar shots, especially one really prominent one this episode, and was WONDERING when it would come into play . . . we shall see!

Nah, Doc just stays as he is 'cause he's only dying, not dead, and so's got enough 'him' to not need a full regeneration. I think.

Oh, that's nice.

And it does fit with RTD's IF I MENTION SOMETHING EARLY, THEN IT COUNTS AS PLOT approach to writing.

Srsly. That stuff with the bees maxed out my stupidometer (which was then completely exploded by the whole telephone...agh....head hurts...)

The phone thing was just another slant on the "save Dobby" bit at the end of last series. They might as well have shouted "clap if you believe in fairies".

Cav, damn you and your theories. The way she says "TEMP." has always annoyed me, and now it's just going to make me go "grr" even more because I do believe you're right. Of course we won't mention your *moon* theory. :0)

[info]7rin just pointed me at this thread. This is something I said on IRC earlier today...

<melanie|dell> And the drum beat and the two hearts when Donna is sat on the stairs.
<melanie|dell> And her special status.
<melanie|dell> Want to hear something weird.
<melanie|dell> I think Donna's a time lord in 'hiding' using the watch or similar device.

So yes, I agree.
