*shudder*
There's something just a bit Silent Hill about this.

Also, isn't a plush-bodied electric lamp a bit of a fire risk?

I think it's a bit Toy Story 1.

I was just about to comment on that. It looks like it'll sudden unflop, moving like the angels from Blink. Except, oh god, a teddy bear!

Yipe.

As a tangential aside, one of the things I will be doing in America in a couple of weeks is watching some people play Silent Hill, because I don't play computer games myself and I am fascinated by how terrifying I find even vague descriptions of the plot, setting, monsters, protagonists, everything. Certainly I have never been so scared of anything Made Of Pixels (although I suspect part of my brain is fairly certain the stuff in Silent Hill is real) and in particular the descriptions of Pyramid Head have occasionally resulted in me curled up with my hands over my face as if I could keep the pictures away and I don't know why, so naturally I must poke it with sticks on the days leading up to Halloween. Possibly I'm an idiot. :)

But I can't stand not knowing why things are scary. I think that's why clowns still scare me more than anything else; just can't work out why...

silent hill, i think, works for the same reasons that alot of good zombie films can be truly scary (and not just campy) - it's the idea of twisting the every day and the mundane into something utterly terrible and horrible, in a visceral way. by setting it in a nice little town with cute little storefronts (instead of some apocalyptic wasteland, demon-pit, or techno-landscape), there's that extra bit of self-identification that lets the player empathize with the protagonist that much more.

add in the classic sense of dread in a silent hill game, and you're all set. :)

Where are you going to be in the U.S.? I've been on LJ really sporadically, so I missed that one. (Also, I'm going to laugh, in a whimper-y way, if we're trading countries for the moment, since I'll be in the UK from the 21st-6th, heh.)

"Silent Hill" (the game) is super-creepy and awesome to watch. Skip the movie, though!

I live in Maryland (halfway between Baltimore and Wasihngton, DC), so if you're on the East Coast, it might be possible to get together!

I'll be in Manchester from the 21st-28th, if all goes as planned (also, dear Lucy, we need to sort out which dates we have booked the cottage for Whitby, since you have the booking info and I don't!) I don't think we'll have a chance to get to London this trip, since Ade is working.

Hope you have a lovely trip, and a fantastic Halloween!!

I don't think I'll be let out of my friends' sight while I'm in the US anyway, and I don't want to get in the way of you guys in Manchester, especially as you'll have just arrived and I'll just be manically about to leave, but ♥ one day!

Thank you, honey.
